WALNUT CREEK — Southbound commuters on Interstate 680 are facing heavy backups after a crash near the Highway 24 interchange, the California Highway Patrol reports.
A moving truck and at least four other vehicles collided about 6:25 a.m. at North Main Street, sending vehicle parts all over the roadway, the CHP said. The crash initially blocked two left lanes until the drivers moved over to the shoulder.
As of 7:20 a.m., southbound traffic was backed up nearly four miles to Highway 242, and southbound commuters on that freeway are experiencing a chain reaction backup since many motorists connect to I-680.
While the roadway is clear, motorists should expect delays as the backup subsides.
